His Favourite Park

Every day is a new heartbreak. No matter what we end up doing during our day, we know that Maks isn’t here with us.

Yesterday, we went to his favourite place, where they had animals and horses, which were his favourite. He knew them all by name and would feed them. We stood by the stream, where he enjoyed the feel of the water in his hands and where he also shared some heartbreaking experiences from his life. We walked the trails that he would walk with my mom, and she shared some of the stories he had told her. All of it made us cry. Then we drove away, and my mom broke into bitter sobs.

My evening was spent mini-golfing with my cousins, as it’s a little tradition of ours. I allowed myself a moment of reprieve from the grief so that I could connect with my cousins and show them how much I love them.
