Family, Film, and Resurrection: A Holiday in Banská Štiavnica

And just like that, Resurrection Day has passed and I’m back to work. This break flew by faster than I expected—it was full in the best way: family, friends, and quiet celebrations.

A Return to Banská Štiavnica

On Thursday, we packed up and headed to Banská Štiavnica with my in-laws.

This historic town sits inside a caldera and once thrived as a mining hub. My first visit was years ago—before we even moved to Slovakia—and we’ve made it a tradition to return at least once a year. Even now, there’s still so much to explore.

With its rich history, scenic trails, and hilltop Calvary overlooking the town, it’s truly a photographer’s dream.

Despite the rain, we visited the Calvary for the first time, and by 5 p.m. the skies cleared, giving us a long, golden walk under a breathtaking sunset. The whole trip was peaceful, full of love, and one of my favorites so far.

A Gift in the Rain

On Saturday, we explored more of the town—and I found a new-to-me film camera. It comes with a beautiful God story I’ll share soon, once I’ve seen how the first roll turns out.

That unexpected gift felt like the perfect addition to an already special weekend. We also stayed at a charming penzion called Nastalgia, and the name really fit. My father-in-law picked it out, and it was such a cozy, perfect place to stay.

A Resurrection Celebration

I’m glad we came home Saturday because it meant we could be part of Resurrection Day at church.

After service, we joined our pastor and a small group of friends at their home for a quiet, meaningful celebration. The sun came out, the day was warm, and there was laughter and peace.

We left a little early to prep for more guests the next day, but it was the kind of day I’ll remember.

Lamb, Ice Cream, and Family Time

Monday was spent preparing for lunch with Luboš’s family.

I’m so thankful for a husband who helps me clean and cook—he serves so naturally. We ordered lamb for the first time, and even though I’d never cooked it before, it turned out fairly well.

After lunch, we went on a long walk for local ice cream and ended the day with board games. That time together meant so much—it was simple and sweet.

One More Dress for Summer

On Tuesday, I sewed a new dress for summer.

I had to improvise a bit on the design, but I’m really happy with how it turned out. It’s already warm here—surprisingly so!—and I can see myself wearing this dress often.

Honestly… I might make one in every color. (Okay, maybe not every color.)

This holiday was full—of beauty, of people, of unexpected gifts. And I don’t take a single part of it for granted.

These past few days reminded me that joy doesn’t have to be loud to be meaningful.

What part of your week felt unexpectedly beautiful?
