Autumn Moments by the Lake

Last night’s sleeping arrangements were rough, but we all made it work with love and respect. The teenagers get their own room, while the rest of us share a room/kitchen. Definitely not an ideal setup for an Airbnb. At least the courtyard is quite cute and picturesque.

After breakfast, some of us walked to the lake and a nearby village, while my mom, my husband and I drove to the lake. My mom can’t do more than 15–30 minutes of walking or physical activity of any kind. Today, she was forced to pass that threshold, but with long breaks in between. The lake was gorgeous, and I was very glad I took my film camera with me, my Zenit 11. It was also very windy, so much so that the other group called us to say they hadn’t made it to the lake and had called it quits. We met them at the pub for some tea and soup.

Our group then split. Some of us went on a hike to the castle ruins, while the rest went for a delicious lunch with lakeside views. Between all the smiles and laughter, there is deep sorrow and mourning. My sister-in-law for her husband, and my mom for her son. The rest of us carry the grief as well, some more than others. We are a broken group, but I do believe this time together is healing.

Towards the evening, Hubby and I went back to the lake for sunset pictures before he took the teenagers to the waterpark.

It’s been a beautiful day as we hold joy, family and grief together.

There was a small light festival in the village where we are staying. As my mother-in-law, sister-in-law and I were watching the lanterns, we were given some mulled wine. It had to be the worst thing I’ve ever tasted. It was like drinking medicine or a bottle of vodka straight up. Let’s just say the grass got more of the mulled wine than I did. It was definitely well watered… or should I say, well wined!
