A Hard Day and a Precious Friend

The day started out pretty good and promising. My mom had an appointment with her employer so that she could say goodbye. I waited in the car for her and finished up some of my own personal tasks.

After that, we went to downtown Snohomish to look for something my mom could remember my brother by. We went out for a quick lunch before heading to the cemetery for our appointment about the headstone. That’s where my day got derailed.

After the heartbreak of picking out my brother’s headstone and figuring out how we wanted it to look, we visited his grave, and that sent me spiralling for a good portion of the day.

I picked up my best friend, but I was not in the right headspace to be a very good friend at that moment. I am thankful that Stephanie understood. I’m also very thankful for the time Stephanie took to fly from California just to be with me, because that’s the most precious thing ever.

After dropping off my mom to do what she needed to do, Stephanie and I headed to the Everett waterfront. We took pictures, we laughed, and we had dinner, and it was exactly what I needed to get out of the depression and sadness that had hit me.

I am forever thankful for Stephanie.
