Cold Winds and a Magnolia in Malacky

Augustin had a football game today, and he’s scheduled for another one next Sunday too. This game was held in Malacky, a small town in western Slovakia near the Czech border.

Yesterday in Bratislava, it was warm—18°C and sunny. But today in Malacky, it was a completely different story. The temperature dropped to 2°C, and the wind chill made it feel even colder. It was the kind of cold that cuts right through you.

A Short Walk, A Sweet Find

Luboš and I walked around town a bit before Tín’s game started, but we didn’t last long—it was that cold.

Still, in those few minutes, I found something that completely made my day: a run-down house with a gorgeous magnolia tree in full bloom.

It stood there like a secret tucked into the cold—soft, pink, and unexpected. That little discovery made the freezing walk feel like a perfect adventure.

Worth the Effort

I love going for walks and seeing what I might discover. Even on days like this—when the wind cuts through every layer and your nose won’t stop running—there’s still something waiting to be seen.

Today, it was a magnolia in Malacky. And it was worth every frozen step.

Sometimes beauty shows up in the most unlikely places—unexpected, quiet, and exactly what you needed.

What small discovery has surprised you lately?
